Girl’s Gadget Report: Wireless pool thermometer

Posted on April 29, 2006 by Guest Contributor

Pool ThermometerThe summer time is coming!

Many of us have already begun planning summer hot weekends.

It feels like sun has given everybody a kind of additional energy. Women begin visiting fitness centers, solaria and pools in order to get ready for hot season. You’ve probably noticed that the more things you have to do, the more you manage.

But I can have a bet that when in several months you lie in the sun you won’t be able to leave your couch because of total laziness. Just then Floating Pool Thermometer will be the right device you need.

It gives you an opportunity to check the water temperature without making any effort. It means that you won’t have to leave your cosy place in wait for water gets worm. Being absolutely wireless it transmits the information to your indoor display. The thermometer features 433MHz transmitter. That’s why you can get the information being away about 100 feet. Moreover, it has its own display with rather big digits, as its developers say. So you can also read figures at distance.

At the same time you shouldn’t worry about its safe keeping. The materials it’s made of are absolutely waterproof and sun-resistant. Actually, it’s rather useful device, I think.

The only thing you have to perform is to dip it into water and just enjoy your holiday.

Girl's Gadget Report: The Menstrual Mirror

Posted on April 21, 2006 by Guest Contributor

Menstrual MirrorThis rather pretty tool can be of use for any modern woman. Its designers have taken into consideration two basic things women usually care about: appearance and health. Of course, not every representative of fair sex does think of these things.
Women usually find time for exterior, but unfortunately they don’t pay much attention to their health. They find a lot of reasons to justify their carelessness: lack of time, tiredness, “I know that everything is all right”, “it’s just temporary light attack of illness”, oblivion, etc.
Actually, the only reason which causes this negligence is our laziness. Frankly speaking, I was wrong when using the word “they”, I’d better say “we”, because I do not differ much from others. The simplest example is when I forget tracking my menstrual cycle. You know, it is our human nature: we can talk a lot, but do nothing. It’s right my case. I know that it is more than important to be aware of processes in my body; nevertheless I change nothing in my life style.

Now I’ll remember about my health care each time when looking in the compact mirror. Thanks to the I-PPO tracking ovulation and menstruation information becomes easier and permanent.Along with giving you full information and storing historical data, it makes forecasts of your cycle for some period of time. Moreover, it has a lot of additional functions to make you addicted to this gadget. There are many additional features it comes with:

  • organizer
  • static-proof tab
  • etc.

As a matter of fact, I think that there was not need in these features anyway the basic idea is rather attractive. It comes in several colors to enjoy: pink, silver, black, blue and ivory.

Curses, Foiled Again!

Posted on November 11, 2005 by Guest Contributor

What do you do when the president of your company says the department that pulls the best prank will win $100 each? Cover an entire office in aluminum foil. That’s right. All the walls, all the furniture, all his office equipment, every paper clip and even the sticky notes on his desk. We aim to never be outdone, and this was no exception.

BlizzCon – Day Two

Posted on October 31, 2005 by Guest Contributor

Day Two:

More of the same stuff happened today. They repeated most of the same things they showed yesterday, so I did the things that everyone did yesterday, but with shorterlines. I played World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (more below). I attended some of the panels, which gave awesome information. I got to play more StarCraft: Ghost. In the afternoon, I attended the comic panel with the guys from Penny Arcade, GUComics, and PvP. Those guys are way funny. Also, the finals of the BlizzCon invitational tournaments were today. I got to see the best StarCraft and WarCraft III players from around the globe compete. It was awesome.

BlizzCon – Day One

Posted on October 29, 2005 by Guest Contributor

Day One:

We arrived at the aneheim convention center at about 9:00am. The Con didn’t open until 10:00am, but there were a couple members of our party that didn’t have tickets yet, so we went early to see if we could get tickets for them (partially through press connections I have). When we got there, there were already two long lines (about 1/4 mile each). One was the line to pick up tickets (good thing we got ours yesterday). The convention was awesome! They had StarCraft Ghost playable. They had World of WarCraft: The Burning Crusade (The just now announced expansion to World of WarCraft) playable. They gathered the best StarCraft and WarCraft III players from around the globe to compete here. They had an art gallery, Blackrock Spire to climb, a sponsor area complete with Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade, and a huge store, with an always long line. Not to mention the panels and FMVs they were showing the entire time.

Creativity and the web

Posted on August 9, 2005 by Guest Contributor

grand
One aspect of the Internet I’ve always found attractive is the chance for hobbyists to virtually leave their dens and garages and take their tinkering to the world.

For would-be writers, there’re blogs, fanfics and on-line ‘zines just like this one into which I’m typing.

Now a commercial venture, TotallyPhotos.com, offers pros, semi-pros and hobbyist photographers a potential new market for getting their pics seen and used.

As a “place for truly creative royalty-free photography,” the site will likely help the graphic hungry web provide more eye candy and be a resource for (as they say on the site) 100% royalty free, fresh new material from around the world.

(In the interest of full-disclosure, the thumbnail above is from my photo of the Grand Canyon. I truly think it’s a great Internet-based idea.)

Hands on With a Powerful Rodent

Posted on August 3, 2005 by Guest Contributor

Hello Readers. I wanted to re-introduce myself. I have previously written reviews of Tiger, the Mac Mini, and the iPod Shuffle but I’ve been MIA lately. Well, I am back with my thoughts on Apple’s latest offering.

First of all, a confession. I have a condition called Appleitis. Apple announces something and I immediately do two things. First, go to apple.com and drool for a bit. If I have the money, I’ll call the Apple store in SoHo to see if they have it in stock, if they don’t (as was the case with the Mighty Mouse) I’ll go online and check what the estimated shipping costs will be.

I Got the new Apple Mighty Mouse yesterday in the mail. Continue reading →

Takes a licking…

phone
Buying a cell phone sometimes involves considering a whole lot of disparate features. Do you need to check email messages, surf the web, make phone calls, IM, text message, play games? Can you use the phone as a modem or maybe a dessert topping?

For a variety of reasons, most notably Bluetooth so I can sync to my Powerbook, I have a Motorola V551.

I’m adding a new qualification to its list of uses — washability.

After realizing it was left behind in a side pocket to some shorts twirling in a washing machine, I had assumed the worst and began searching the web for my next phone. A couple of hours in front of a fan after rescue the screen came back. Gradually, over the past week, as various droplets of moisture evaporated from its innards, greater functionality returned.

Today, I believe everything is working and the whites have never looked so bright and fresh.

Favorite New Toy of the Day

Google has released a free version of Google Earth. If you have a broadband connection and a new enough Windows box running 2000 or XP (they warn off desktops older than four years and laptops older than two), it is worth checking out.

It kind of reminds me of space-age, Hollywood depictions of screen views that heretofore have looked nothing like a real ‘puter. Look, Ma, I’m flying.

Great way to while away some time I shouldn’t be in the office.

Digital Waterloo

Posted on June 9, 2005 by Guest Contributor

voipHistorically, I have never met a gadget I didn’t like, and within, say, an hour or two it’s usually sitting up, rolling over and eating out of my hand. Forget about RTFM, I’ve become a power user over night.

Until now.

I’ve met my match, Cisco’s VoIP communication systems. Day 1 of a new job, I couldn’t answer the phone at all. Day 2, I was able to answer it and check my voicemail, but I deleted a message I meant to forward. Day 3, an additional added line was accidentally set to call forward into oblivion, but I did manage to plug in a headset. Today, Day 4, I finally solved the mystery of saved receipts in my voicemail box; They were email return receipts, able to be deleted as either text or messages.

I’m not sure if it’s technically progress when it takes me four days to gain telephone competency.

Digital Breadcrumbs

Posted on June 3, 2005 by Guest Contributor

hanselgretelGenerally speaking, technology is my friend, providing me gadgets with which to play and a website to keep in touch with friends, family and fans. All such things, however, leave a trace of where you have been.

A while back, my “comedy” website (in quotes, because some didn’t agree) conflicted with my much more staid, professional day job. The result, I moved on from that job and actually that state and part of the country.

Next week, I start a new job, and learning from the past, I will do everything I can to obscure my digital path. If I write on my weblog, it will be through a Gmail account. If I check my own site’s email, it will be through forwards to Gmail or my cell or Palm. I intend to never actually hit my site from their servers (and, in fact, have blocked their IP address).

I’m curious, though, what other strategies people might have out there to keep “Big Brother” unaware of their digital space. Any ideas?

Happy Birthday Old Friend.

Posted on June 1, 2005 by Guest Contributor

Happy birthday to an old favorite.

–Gamespot

Pac-Man turned 50 years old on Wednesday. And in doing so, Namco, Pac-man’s creating company was awarded a spot in the Guinness Book of Records as being listed the “most successful coin operated game” in history. Namco sold 293,822 units of the arcade machine during the seven-year period from 1980 to 1987. And since there, there have been numerous ports to home systems, 3-D versions, Ms. pac-man, and the list goes on and on… *wicka wicka wicka*..ok, its harder to type out the sound than I have first imagined…
