I disagree with “Thou Shalt Not Use Twitter in Conjunction With a Service Which Updates Itself Automatically and Frequently ” – I don’t have a ton of time in my day and I have friends on twitter and on brightkite, so why not use one service to streamline many communication networks? Brightkite is my saving grace – I publish to brightkite and I know it will hit twitter, friendfeed and then facebook. It’s a perfect set-up. Actually a perfect set-up would be brightkite receiving twitter comments from my brightkite post.
Thine enjoyedth greatly and learned 🙂

@Anne so first, I have nothing against BrightKite. But all i know is this – I have *NEVER* seen someone give a brightkite update and cared. And, no offense, I doubt that most of your followers care about where you go either…
People, in general, are good about meeting up with each other – hence the core nature of humans as social animals. We don’t need the location spam.

Wow Jeremy. Considerable skill demonstrated in writing that in Commandment format. Super tips. Sometimes you don’t know your blowing it when you’re new to this stuff.
What do you think of using a plugin for your blog so that it automatically tweets your new post? Bad? I’m actively participating on twitter and not just spamming, but am I blowing it all the same?

A fine list – viii is concerning, I thought everyone really was on friendfeed.

Jeremy – there are settings to eliminate the bkite checkin feature sending a message to twitter. I think the real issue is people knowing how to use their social media tools. There are only so many services one person will indulge in joining until the mind shuts down and these great services become a burden and not a useful information resource. Most of the people I talk to don’t even know about bkite and the ones that do know bkite have no idea the amazing integration features. If you disobey this commandment: iii.Thou Shalt Not Use Twitter in Conjunction With a Service Which Updates Itself Automatically and Frequently – this commandment doesn’t exist: xiv.Thou Shalt Not Spend Thine Day Reading Blogs, Leaving Comments, Writing Tweets, Updating Facebook Statuses, and then Complain About Thine Busy Schedule. And Jeremy I know you don’t not like bkite, but I really love it, so I will always defend it – thanks for the awesome post!
