Saw on Mashable that some designer posted “actual” photos of the “tablet”. I’m no photography expert, but they looked wrong from the beginning. I can’t say I’ve 100% proven it, but I’m pretty sure they are not correct. Here’s the photo (source):
Looks pretty, right? Yup, and props to the guy who did the photoshopping to make it work. My first issue with the picture was the basic reflection of the tablet in the screen. I’m pretty sure there’s just no way the Apple logo from the MacBook desktop background would be so bright that it would reflect not just onto the tablet screen, but then be visible in the tablet’s reflection back onto the MacBook itself. Here’s specifically what I’m calling shenanigans on:
Just to take it a step further, I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots of my MacBook and my Droid Eris, just to see if I could capture a similar effect. I couldn’t even come close – here are two pics, one without and one with flash (I presumed the flash would help create the reflection):
Even without the camera, there’s literally nothing I can do to get a reflection of my phone onto the glossy screen of the Macbook.
Updated: just found someone who knows Photoshop well enough to prove the fakery.
As a last point, if you were going to leak some photos, wouldn’t you have one in someone’s hand? This is just a weird way to do it – but that’s only my opinion. I’ll wait to see it in Steve’s hands on Wednesday. Which I’ll have to do remotely, cuz I don’t get invited to such things. 🙁

The problem I see with the reflection of the Apple logo isn’t the brightness (although you’re probably right about that) it’s that it wouldn’t be in that position at all.
Think about what would happen if you threw a (very light) bouncy ball from the position of your eye to where you see the “no way” apple logo. It’d hit the laptop screen, bounce onto the “ipad”, then bounce over your shoulder.
In order for the Apple logo to appear on the surface of the tablet’s reflection (rather than just on the tablet itself) it would have to be over the shoulder of whoever took the photo.
you’re missing the point! ONLY THE TABLET has the halo which WOULD REFLECT on the screen!
Droid don’t surf! no halo!
I don’t think the photos are real either, but this dumbass little linkbait experiment you did does nothing to debunk anything. And if this is your idea of legitimate journalism, it’s not surprising that you don’t get invited to events like Apple pressers.
@Richard – great point
@Bocephus – good use of the word dumbass, you are truly a scholar. also extra credit for first use of the word “journalism” on my blog.
The first thing I noticed when I saw that FAKE photo was how sharp the corners of the Tablet were. Apple would never release a product with such sharp corners. It would be a hazard. It’s a fake photo.

Two problems with your test:
1) The Photo has a very dark wallpaper. Try making your wallpaper black and you will see a reflection. You bright screen is masking the reflection.
2) Your screen is tilted too far back, make it vertical or tilted slightly forward.
Since your sidebar covers the pictures on almost all these shots, I can’t really see what you are talking about. Thats on all browsers. Good luck with your new internet. When you figure out how to use it, let us know.
@pebbert – i actually did try those things, still never got a reflection anywhere even remotely close to the one in the photo. if you can get closer, shoot me the pic and i’ll include it!
@DLG – yeah, my sidebar does cover parts of the image. of course, it’s not exactly the *relevant* parts, but I’m still learning how to use the mices that came with my colecovision computer. once i figure that out, hopefully i can cropped the picturing and you’ll be able to see the datas more clearly.
