Went out to have a coffee (read: beer) with a couple of office-mates today.
Returned to my office, found my laptop, tablet PC, and digital camera were all stolen.
There were other people in the office at the time.
Watched the building’s security video, the thief left the building 1 minute before I returned.
Cops are skeptical about finding it.
This sucks.
The only saving grace is I had just backed up all my photos yesterday, and most of my other files about 2 weeks ago.
Cops said not to even bother calling pawn shops looking for it, as it’s likely being sold for about $100 to some “organization” that sends them overseas.
Did I mention this sucks?
Will probably get a new one tomorrow (any recommendations? please comment if so) – thanks to my Plaxo and my Drobo, I should be back up and running within 48 hours.
Sucks.
Lenovo R or T Series (T61 gets high marks) – best PC laptop IMHO. Dell sucks.
Wow, that really sucks!
But look at it this way, it’s the perfect opportunity to get a Mac! 😉
man, sorry to hear about that. Theft sucks, the loss of stuff, but it is the feeling of violation that is worse. Really crazy to happen in a building with other people and security cams.
Get a thinkpad. But, we all KNOW that you love the sony’s
That does suck!
We installed Computrace on all our laptops just for this. Might take look at it.
On the laptop, I just ordered a new T61 to replace my R51. Used it for years and it was very dependable.
Take some stills from the security camera and post them online.
As far as cameras, how long can you wait? I can send you a Fuji FinePix F30 😉 that you can use until the Canon SD850 IS comes out this summer – that’s the one I’m waiting for.
As far as laptops go, the Asus U1 looks sexy but probably too small for a primary computer.
Hey Jeremy,
Bad news – Good that you backed up stuff though.

Good opportunity to get a digital SLR and actuall CAPTURE pictures of the little toe.
🙂
Really sorry to hear this man. It totally sucks. I know how you feel. I had my Canon 5D stollen last year. It’s more than just the cost, it’s a huge personal violation.
